1973 Porsche 911 2.4 ST/RS conversion

In 1970 Porsche introduced a new 911 racing car - the 911 ST, which replaced the T/R that had been in limited production for competition since 1968 and in doing so, the ST effectively became the fore-runner to the RS and RSR.

One of the most evocative 911 STÕs of the period was an experimental version built in preparation for the non-championship Tour de France in September 1970. The car had been developed over the summer for factory driver Gerard Larrousse. He famously offered the factory mechanics a case of champagne for every kilogram of weight they could remove below 800kg, but this wasn't going to be easy as the regular GT was 840kg. The whole package was drilled for lightness, extensive use of titanium and super light glassfibre panels meant that it eventually weighed in at 789kg. A highly tuned experimental 2395cc Typ 911/21 engine was installed, with three huge twin choke Weber carbs, all then clocked in typical 1970Õs psychedelic livery, Larrousse went into the race with 260bhp at 8000rpm and finished third overall.

This car Chassis # 9113100502 is a genuine low-mileage Californian (LHD) 1973 911 T Coupe, which has recently been beautifully converted into an ST/RS and re-liveried in the famous Larousse Tour de France physcadelic scheme.

Fitted with a newly rebuilt 915 gearbox and very strong Type 911/81 - 2.4S spec engine fitted with hydraulic tensioners, rebuilt Weber carburetors and new SSI stainless steel exhaust and heat exchangers, all recently dyno tested to 200hp. The car also has all new oil lines and return tubes, new Koni suspension with 22mm and 28mm torsion bars and adjustable spring plates, Welmeister front brace, new brakes, etc, etc. The car is finished with factory RS rear arches, complete with 7x15 front Fuchs and 8x15 Minilight rallye rear wheels and bonnet mounted Cibie rallye lights.

It also has all new trim, lenses, rubbers etc and is fitted with a new, RS lightweight interior including Rallye ST seats and 5-point belts, lightweight door panels, lightweight carpet, Momo Prototipo steering wheel, and radio delete plate.
