The 936 engine was a development unit successfully used in the 1974 Turbo Carrera RSR. It was an air-cooled flat-six with cooling fan placed horizontally above the engine. The crankcase was magnesium alloy. A Bosch six-plunger injection pump was used in connection with a KKK turbocharger located at the extreme rear of the car. Bore stroke dimensions of 86 x 66 m gave an effective capacity is 2142cc and the engine developed 520 bhp at 8,000 rpm with a 6.5:1 compression ratio and boost pressure of 1.5 bar. In 1977 the Porsche 936 Spyder had a top speed of 350 km/h.
