Delivered new in 1996 to Money Auto Limited, a UK company owned jointly by British racing drivers, Hugh Price and John Robinson. The two paired up with a third driver, Peter Owen and together competed in the 1996 BPR Series with the car run by Parr Motorsport.
For 1997, an agreement was made with the successful German team, Roock Racing, whereby the car was entered into the FIA GT Championship with Price and Robinson paired with the fast German driver Claudia Hürtgen for the ‘97 Le Mans 24 hour, where they finished just off the podium - 4th in GT / 13th Overall.
Roock Racing were well-known for their chassis and roll cage development of the 993 GT2 Evo, welding additional reinforcement tubing onto the factory (Matter) cage and then repainting the interior bodyshell in Roock Motorsport - signature red paint.
The 1997 FIA GT season was an extremely competitive season, with a field of McLaren F1 GTRs, Factory Porsche 911 GT1s, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTs, Panoz GTR-1s. The battle in GT2 was no less competitive and Roock Racing ran an extremely successful campaign with two GT2s, #108 picking up a class 3rd at Spa and a win at Zeltweg in the hands of the talented Stefan Ortelli.
Subsequent to a few further races in the 1998 FIA GT Championship, Price and Robinson then brought #108 back to the UK and retired the car. In 2006, they sold it to the current, long-term owner, who in 2007 commissioned Paragon Porsche to fully rebuild the car and restore it to its 1997 Le Mans 24 hour livery, whilst retaining the Roock Racing chassis / roll-cage modifications and red interior. X-Tech Engineering rebuilt the engine in 2014, since when the car has not been raced and has been immaculately maintained.
With the recent emergence of the Endurance Racing Legends series by Peter Auto, the Porsche 993 GT2 (among others) has now become a highly useable and competitive car to race in this new type of historic racing for slightly more up-to-date GT2 cars from 1995-2010. Not only does ERL visit some of the best circuits in the world, but attracts many wonderful cars of this golden era of FIA GT, IMSA and Le Mans endurance racing, enabling current owners to fully experience the joy of racing these cars and in some cases, race alongside original drivers at the invitation of some owners wishing to share their seat time and learn from their experience.
